Based on Microsoft Office SharePoint®Server 2007, SharePoint Online delivers rich collaboration capabilities that enable team members to flexibly and efficiently collaborate, find organizational resources, search your intranet site, and manage content and workflow SharePoint Online offers an endless array of possibilities to improve internal document sharing, collaboration and workflows. Workflows are automations of a business process, in whole or in parts. During the course of a workflow, documents, information, or tasks are passed from one participant to another for action, according to a set of procedural rules.Using the Workflow Designer that is built into Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Designer 2007, you can design workflows for content on your Microsoft SharePoint Online sites without the use of a programming language. The Workflow Designer leverages SharePoint's native capabilities to allow you to enable custom actions and triggers for events such as document uploads, changes in the status of document, or testing a value in a SharePoint list to take a conditional action.For example, suppose that a team's primary responsibilities are writing, revising, and approving contracts. These contracts are stored in document libraries on the team site. 
With Office SharePoint Designer 2007, you can create a workflow that sends a notification e-mail message to the reviewer when a new contract has been uploaded to the site. At the same time, the workflow creates a task in the Tasks list for the reviewer. When that person reviews the contract and marks the task as complete, different actions are triggered depending on whether the contract is assigned a status of Approved or Rejected. Team efficiency and productivity improve because the workflow drives the process so that the team can focus on doing the work, rather than on managing the workflow. And no programming is required to build such a solution. In addition, because the workflow is hosted in SharePoint Online, the team accesses the site and benefits from the workflow regardless of the region in which they work. By creating rules in the Workflow Designer, you can quickly add interactivity to a SharePoint solution or application.
